This is a complex sentence because it has one independent clause and two dependent clauses. The first independent clause is “I would not learn”. The first dependent clause is “how truly serious a moose attack could be” and the second dependent clause is “until I was in Alaska training for the Iditarod” .

There is one independent clause and two dependent clauses in this sentence. The pronoun “I” functions as the subject and “would…learn” functions as the verb in the independent clause. The common noun “attack” functions as the subject and “could be” functions as the verb in the first dependent clause. The pronoun “I” functions as the subject and “was…training” functions as the verb in the second dependent clause. The subordinators in this sentence are “how” and “until.” Therefore, the sentence type of this sentence is complex.

Well, this is a complex sentence, because it has one independant clause and two independent clauses joined by a subordinating conjunction, such as "until."

This is a complex sentence because it has one independent clause and two dependent clause. The independent clause in the sentence was "I would not learn". The first dependent clause in the sentence was "how truly serious a moose attack could be", and the second dependent clause in the sentence was "until I was in Alaska training for the Iditarod". This is a dependent clause within another dependent clause.

There are three subject-verb combinations: "I would learn...attack could be...I was..."

There are one independent clause and two dependent clause in this sentence. "I would learn" is an independent clause. "attack could be" and "I was" are dependent clauses because the sentence uses the subordinators "until" and "how" to describe and explain the previous clause.

Because there are one independent clause and two dependent clauses, it makes this sentence a complex sentence.

Consider this explanation from one of the posts above:

This is a complex sentence because it has one independent clause and two dependent clause. The independent clause in the sentence was "I would not learn". The first dependent clause in the sentence was "how truly serious a moose attack could be", and the second dependent clause in the sentence was "until I was in Alaska training for the Iditarod". This is a dependent clause within another dependent clause.

In terms of what needs to be changed in this explanation, what needs to be changed most and why?

There are three subject verb combinations in this sentence. The first one(I would) which is part of the independent clause, the second one(attack could be)is in the first dependent clause and the last one(I was) part of the second dependent clause. We can now conclude that this sentence is a complex sentence with one independent and two dependent clauses.
